Question before buying Acourate
Re: Question before buying Acourate
Do not use the QX1002USB if you cannot definitely switch off the EQ section. Otherwise you will never find a reliable neutral behaviour. Colored measurements do not make any sense at all.
Stay well tuned

Re: Question before buying Acourate
Good advice indeed. The line was drawn: Focusrite Scarlett 3rd gen interface + the Dayton Audio EMM-6 mic is the winning mix!

Re: Question before buying Acourate
Agreed. The Cross•Spectrum Labs EMM-6 is worth the extra cost and shipping time. IIRC, the standard Dayton Audio EMM-6 only comes with a calibration file that's valid for vertical (90º orientation), but for best results, you really want to use the mic with it pointed towards the speakers (0º orientation). Cross•Spectrum Labs provides calibration files that are more accurate and are valid for 0º, 45º, and 90º. That's easily worth the extra $25 in my book.

Re: Question before buying Acourate
This is crucial information that I wasn't able to find before purchasing the mic, or at least is not offered on the Dayton's site.
If only I know about this I would have gone for Uli's version of microphone since it was pretty much the same price. I only thought I would get the EMM-6 quicker.
Since I have already produced my first measurements with the EMM-6 they must be flawed since the mic position was indeed horizontal but the calibration file was for 90 degrees... My oh, my! Need to find a solution now!

Re: Question before buying Acourate
Victor,
can you send me the calibration data? I'll check if they are valid for a 90° setup

Done. Uploaded to Google Drive and sent you a notification.
Many thanks,

Re: Question before buying Acourate
The calibration looks like a 0° calibration.
But I do not like this zigzag curve. Green/brown is a comparison with a ECM8000 calibration with 0° + 90°.
A 90° calibration typically falls down already at 10 kHz

Re: Question before buying Acourate
Thank you Uli.
Ok. What I understand the EMM-6 is a keeper and will not brake future measurements? I am asking because I could return it (since I am in the 14 days frame) and choose the one you provide for maximum confidence. The price difference is not substantial at all.

Victor

Re: Question before buying Acourate
Victor,
I'm biased as I offer calibrated mics. Indeed I do the calibration against an Earthworks M50 mic as reference with a fully linearized speaker.
The calibration result is dependent on the reference quality and on the applied measurement and mathematical evaluation. I do not claim to be an official calibration office. But as already said I wonder about the zigzag curve and 5 dB difference.
So you have to make your own decisions.

Re: Question before buying Acourate
Yeah. I would either return it or send the mic in to have it calibrated properly for 0º operation. On the zig-zag response, I wonder if there was excessive levels or distortion during the recording. I trust Uli's analysis though, especially since you sent him the actual impulse response measurements.
