Combining crossover types

Post by mattkhan » 25 Jun 2022 16:25

I am creating a 4 way xo & want to use different filters as I move through the ways, steeper/sharper at the low end with no/minimal overlap but allowing for some overlap at the top end as this yields a smoother DI curve.

What's the best way to do this? splitnjoin a pair of filters at the mid point? I suppose the overall filter level can't be perfect in this case though.

An option that would work for me, if it could be automated in acourate, is to allow dynlta to be set on a per way basis.

In my case, I want steeper slopes on 1 <-> 2 and 2 <-> 3 with a shallower slope on 3 <-> 4 so it means

* create 2 crossovers in different workspaces (call them A & B, A being steep slopes for the lower ways and B being shallower slopes for upper ways)
* load XO3 from A and XO3 from B
* splitnjoin A XO3 left with B XO3 right with gain adjust = left
* sum A XO1 + A XO2 + sj XO3 + B XO4 (yields an overall response with a dip)
* magnitude invert the sum
* convolve the inverted sum with the filters which overlap the dip (A XO2 and sj XO3 in this case) & cutnwindow back to size

this gets us back to a flat sum

any faster/better way to do this?

Matt,

instead of SplitNJoin you can also try convolution followed by a symmetric CutNWindow. It should be more precise.
Stay well tuned

thanks, I'll try it. I assume you mean to create sets of 2 way XOs which, when convolved, produce the desired band pass shape, right?

Yes. You have to properly combinea high-pass with a low pass.
