Expensive mic under Schröder freq?

Post by k_kovacs » 22 Jul 2021 13:40

I only want to correct under Schröder freq. Is it nesceserary to have a expensive mic for this? (Earthworks Audio M23)

I am using Behringer mic now and I am very happy with the results of sound in Acourate. But if it can be even better, I will buy a better mic. Is it worth it?

cheers

My 2 cents worth: I have been happy using a relatively inexpensive EMM6 mic, calibrated by Cross-Spectrum Acoustics. The 0-degree narrow calibration curve and inverse from Acourate are shown below. To my eye, it is OK down to 20 Hz.

My system has stereo subwoofers crossed in Acourate to 3-way floor standing speakers with a passive crossover in each.

IMHO it is not necessary to use a more expensive mic for the lower frequency range. It makes sense though to use a mic with individual calibration data. That's why I offer calibrated mics like ECM999 or ECM8000 (https://www.audiovero.de/en/microphone.php).
BTW I also prefer fullrange corrections. So also the speaker itself gets corrected. Of course, no need if your speakers are good enough... ;)
Stay well tuned
