Re: Peter from Germany

Sorry, not sure if this question is for Uli or for Peter
I know what ICPA is, but what is AIR?
Also is there a specific reason why the new convolution filter you got didn’t have a subsonic filter included?

Re: Question before buying Acourate

I used to have a setup fairly similar to yours with speakers+subwoofers. You don’t have to switch to an active crossover setup to use Acourate. Just like we don’t have to switch from passive speakers to active speakers to use Acourate. But of course, we can’t time align the subwoofers and speakers a...

Re: Macro 6 ?

I just re-measured my system and decided to measure at a slightly louder volume this time around. The LSR3/Acourate logsweep recording volume bar never got above -10dB. My previous measurements, the loudest it got was maybe -20dB and most of the time was staying at -30dB. What I found was that there...

Re: Questions before getting started

My understanding is that even though Acourate can use ASIO4ALL to access 2 USB devices at the same time (one for playback and one for microphone recording), there is no guarantee that the recording USB microphone timing wouldn’t be off because both USB devices would be accessing the clock or somethi...

Re: Combining Virtual Bass Array and Alternative to VBA Pre-filters

I just noticed that adding an Alternative to VBA broad bass peaks pre-filter actually increases the RT60. I was wondering if Uli can explain why that is. Fortunately, the increase in RT60 didn't seem to affect the sound significantly enough in my system and the benefits of the Alternative to VBA fil...

Combining Virtual Bass Array and Alternative to VBA Pre-filters

So even though many people have had great results using the Alternative to VBA pre-filters alone, I have always found in my system, that the Virtual Bass Array pre-filters sound better. This is regardless of where I set the cut-off amplitude for the Alternative to VBA pre-filters. I finally did some...

Re: Macro 6 ?

It was a pleasure to be able to see Uli’s workflow compared to what I normally do. I learnt quite a lot from it. I was previously told somewhere else that Group Delays <100Hz and preringing corrections are not audible so I should feel free to crank up the EPW settings. Trying Uli’s recommendations a...

Re: Macro 6 ?

I think if you didn't get much improvements with ICPA then you should go without it? Hard to know why. I still wonder if you should just skip the corrections >100Hz for ICPA and see if you hear an improvement. But this time around, it's clear the ICPA settings were correct. As for the 5.5/2 vs 6/0.9...

Re: 4 Subs setup in Mitch' video "Understanding the State of the Art of Digital Room Correction"

Watch the video again. Due to their locations and the room acoustics, the front sub has good 20-40Hz uncorrected response but has more peaks and dips between 40-80Hz whereas the rear sub has significantly less volume at 20-40Hz but is flatter between 40-80Hz when uncorrected. So Mitch’s solution is ...

Acourate Version 2 is Fantastic

TL;DR The short version is that Version 2 of Acourate is great because: 1) User interface improvements (which means it’s much faster to get new filters created) 2) Better sonic results (as I got it up and running and created a better sounding filter in no time) The long version is more convoluted. F...
